Edinburgh Cityscope (formerly Virtual Edinburgh)

Edinburgh Cityscope, CfSE’s first major activity, aims to make Edinburgh the Global City of Learning by turning the entire city and its environs into a pervasive, interactive learning environment. Through a smartphone, tablet or wearable device anyone will be able to learn about the rocks beneath their feet, the buildings and trees around them, the birds above them, the history of every location and the art in every vista and make their own contribution to knowledge.

Its University-wide steering group includes senior academics from Informatics, Edinburgh College of Art, the School of Education, and software developers from EDINA. The Stage 1 plan, which contains recommendations for the technical specification of the infrastructure, has been completed. The software build began in early 2016.
