Practical approaches to Assessment in the Sciences

Thursday, February 22, 2018 - 13:30 to 17:00

Science Educators: Are you interested in meeting new colleagues, and discovering practical new ideas for designing and delivering assessments for your students?

Then please join us at our half day forum to:

  • Gain succinct hands-on ideas and practical approaches to assessing students in the sciences.
  • Exchange ideas and approaches to assessment across scientific disciplines, and build on existing links within the Centre for Science Education.
  • Engage in a staff-focussed event during the Festival of Creative Learning.

Who should attend?

Any colleague teaching on a science programme at the University of Edinburgh is very welcome to attend.

The programme aims to provide practical hints, tips and ideas for designing and delivering science based assessments, and has been designed collaboratively by a group of colleagues working across four different schools to maximise cross-disciplinary interactions and exchange of ideas.

  • Plenary session: Prof Susan Rhind (Assistant Principal for Assessment & Feedback)
  • Talks: Highlighting a range of possible assessment approaches
  • Workshops: Providing hands-on 'taster' experiences of relevant approaches
